Cow Flatulence Causes Global Warming

Yes it's true. We heard it on the news and did some due diligence. Cow farting does cause global warming by emiting methane which is more damaging than carbon dioxide. So we present below three video reports. One from ABC News, one from BBC News, and a commentary from comedian Craig Ferguson.

There are different solutions. According to the ABC News report below, eating less beef will lower demand, thus reducing methane emission. We're not so sure about that.

A BBC News report suggests feeding the cows more straw will reduce cows' carbon footprint. Now there's a simple solution! We wonder why cows in UK and US eat different diets. In the U.S., according to the ABC report, cows are fed corn and soy. In the UK, the cows are fed more straw which serves as a fiber nutrient to reduce cow flatulence. Below is the BBC News report. Note: at the end of the report, the Brits pronounce "methane" as "mee thane".

To top off this report, here is comedian Craig Ferguson with a commentary on cow flatulence. Note: the monologue is 2 minutes long and cow farting is mentioned at the one minute mark. You don't want to miss the first minute.

Well we learned something new about global warming and what we can do to lower methane emission. Move to the UK to eat beef with lower methane emissions.

I'll show my age here... I remember years and years ago - as in before anyone started really talking about global warming - people were talking about putting filters on cow's behinds.

Funny they don't talk about dogs, or deer - or humans. Some of the humans I know could set off global warming all by themselves. Come to think of it, some days I think my dog could, too.

At any rate, the studies I've read say this is all just a normal cycle, so while we definitely should take care of our environment and not continue our wasteful ways, we aren't going to stop nature's cycles.

Here goes my age again. Once about a hundred years ago, when we still got the local channels and I used to watch Andy Rooney, he did a segment about waste. I'll always remember his words when he warned us that when we throw things away, there really is no "away."

We need to reuse, recycle, repair - and stop this wasteful behavior.

That's my rant for the day...
